A survey went out to all student families yesterday afternoon. Survey link here  I invite all families with students enrolled at Liberty to please take a few minutes to complete the survey.  (Should take less than 4 minutes)  The information we gain from families answering the questions will be used to assist us in delivering the best education possible to all of our students now and into the future.

Thank you to those who have replied on the survey already.  We appreciate the support expressed and we will be looking at the data given so that we can make changes needed when and where appropriate.  Many comments have been focused on the topic of bringing students back to school more days.  There are families expressing feelings that we need to increase time and many are expressing feelings that we should NOT add more student days.  If/when more students are added to the daily schedule, it will be done in a safe manner that will follow the required social distancing guidelines.  (Masks must be worn and 6 foot distancing must be upheld)  In addition, there is no plan to remove the option of full remote education, which has been offered as an educational service since school began this fall.

Hotspot loan-  If you have a school provided HotSpot and live in an area where one of the T-Mobile hotspots did not receive service, please contact the district office.  We may have other options that can work for you and the HotSpot not working for your student could then be issued to another family in need on the waiting list.  Also, we’ve been informed that the Spokane County Library District may have Hotspots available to check out that work off of the Verizon cell network.  The borrowing period is only for 28 days but if you are a family without connectivity and do have Verizon service availability, this is a temporary option.  If the Verizon hotspot will work for you where the T-Mobile will not, please let us know and we’ll try to coordinate with OSPI to see if a service could be made available through the rest of the school year.  Go to this link for more information about the Library Hotspots.  https://www.scld.org/mobile-hotspots/

Picture retakes-  Leo’s picture retake day has been moved to Thursday, October 29.  If your student needs to have their photo retaken or did not get their picture taken earlier this month, this will be the only retake day offered this fall.  Picture retake day falls on a “B” group day, but “A” group students, as well as those who are learning remotely, are welcome to come for retakes; however, we do suggest that you contact the school office ahead of time to schedule a time for your student.

Halloween-  With our split schedule, the elementary school will offer two dress-up days for Halloween so that both groups of students have the opportunity to wear their costumes at school.  Our “Group A” students may wear their costumes on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and “Group B” may wear costumes on Friday, Oct. 30.  Parties will be at the discretion of each teacher and must align with our current guidelines.  Snacks will still be allowed, but parent volunteers will not be allowed to come into the classrooms.

WIAA Sports contact time began on Monday this week.  (Please visit www.libertysd.us/athletics for more details)
Our contact time will be broken down into three different seasons, with each season lasting 3 weeks.  Contact time will take place from 4:00-6:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Athletes who attend during these times will need to enter through the Commons doors. All athletes will be screened each day just like they are when they come to school.

    Bus Drivers Needed
Liberty needs substitute bus drivers!  If you’ve ever considered learning to drive a bus (or putting your existing CDL to use), now is a great time to act.  All training is provided by the district, and any expenses incurred during the licensing process will be reimbursed on a set schedule once you begin to work at Liberty.  This is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, grandparents, or part-time workers with morning and/or afternoon availability.  Application materials are available HERE.  Contact Rick Brash, transportation supervisor, at 245-3217 if you have any questions.

    Custodians Needed
Liberty is also taking applications for substitute custodians.  If interested, please contact the district office at 509-624-4415.

Masks- Students have done a great job of wearing their masks here at school.  Thank you for stressing with your student(s) the importance of wearing their mask in order to be at school.  We are starting to accumulate some masks that are falling out of pockets or being misplaced during recess or mask breaks.  We don’t want to give out used masks that are found, back to students unless we’re absolutely sure the mask belongs to that student.  Also we don’t want to throw away masks that are turned in.  Parents please write your child’s name inside their mask or on an added tag if possible so that when they become lost and found, we can had it back to the proper owner.

    COVID-19 Dashboard
On the school district webpage, we now have a COVID-19 Dashboard which will document:

    • Positive COVID-19 cases within the last 14 days.
    • Students or staff quarantined for being in close contact with a COVID-positive individual within the last 14 days.
    • Notes regarding each building’s current status.

Please contact Nurse Miranda Holling at mholling@libertysd.us with questions or concerns.

Attestation Cards- Please remember to complete an attestation card for your student each day they attend school.  If you have misplaced the first set of cards sent home with your student, a blank form with 4 cards on one page, is attached to this email for printing.
