    The Food Service Department would like to encourage students to start their day with a hot breakfast in the Elementary/Junior High or High School Cafeteria.  

    We also serve a nutritious lunch that meets the USDA daily requirements every school day in both the Elementary/Junior High and the High School Cafeterias. 

    We are here to serve and meet the needs of our students and would like to invite parents and grandparents to come and eat with their children anytime.

    Liberty School District does not offer a summer feeding program due to its rural, isolated location.  However, the Town of Fairfield does have a Summer Lunch program for all children 18 years and under.  Please click here for more information on this program.

    We’re getting healthier!           

    It’s a fact - healthier students are better learners. That’s why Liberty School District is working to create a healthier environment for our students. Our Wellness Policy Team encourages you to support our school Wellness Policy implementation. The Wellness Policy addresses school meal programs, nutrition education, physical activity, and foods available during the school day. We are considering a variety of ways to offer healthy food choices throughout our school--in the school meal programs, vending machines, classroom celebrations, and at school sponsored events. We are also supporting nutrition education in the classrooms, and physical activities.

    2023-24 Nutrition Newsletter for Parents

    Breakfast and Lunch Program
    Liberty School District participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program. We serve breakfast and lunch for all students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Monthly menus are posted on the district website and are also available at the office for students to take home. Every entrée is accompanied by a selection from the fresh fruit and vegetable bar, along with the choice of 1% white milk, non-fat chocolate milk, or non-fat strawberry milk.

    Free/Reduced Applications
    Applications for free or reduced price meals must be filled out every year unless families are notified they have been directly certified through Basic Food, TANF, or FDPIR program participation.  Application forms and additional information are available on our school website under the Food Services department tab.

    Meal Payments
    Liberty meal accounts are “family” accounts and are shared by all siblings in a household, regardless of school building. Payments to your meal account may be made in the following ways:

    1. Checks made payable to Liberty with the student name(s) noted on the “for” line deposited at the school office,
    2. Cash in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the student’s name deposited at the school office, or
    3. Online debit card, credit card, or checking account payments via the link on our website at libertysd.us/e-funds*.

    *First-time users of the online payment system will be prompted to create an e~Funds for Schools account login and password. It is important to note that it may take up to two business days for the payment to be posted to the student’s account, and a convenience fee will be applied at checkout.

    Checking Balances Online
    To view your student’s balance and transaction history online, visit Family Access at www.libertysd.us/familyaccess under the Food Service link.  Contact the school office for your Family Access login information.

    Meal Charging Policy

    It is the intention of Liberty School District to provide nutritious meals to all students regardless of account balance. We will not withhold meals from any students. However, if parents don’t want their child to charge meals when their account is low/negative they should communicate this with their child as the Nutrition Services department will feed all students per state law. 

    Free/Reduced Meal Applications are distributed to all students at the beginning of the school year and are also available online under the Food Services link. Completed applications can be submitted anytime to either school office to be processed promptly. 

    Liberty encourages all families to sign into Skyward Family Access (www.libertysd.us/familyaccess) under the Food Service link to track account balances, monitor meal purchases, and to sign up to receive low balance notifications. Low/negative balance notices are emailed directly to parents weekly on Tuesday afternoon when accounts reach $5.00 or below. When the student’s account reaches -$25.00 the Food Service Supervisor will call parents to make sure they are receiving notices and discuss payment arrangements if needed or offer assistance with Free/Reduced Applications. 

    Notices will continue until the account has been brought current. 

    Charging for second meals or milks will not be allowed.  

    Negative meal account balances should be paid in full before a student can receive end of year report card, transcript, or diploma. 

    Please help keep our program running strong by keeping your students account balance current. Payments can be made online using the Family Access link. Contact the school office for login information. Cash (in an envelope with student’s name) and checks (made to Liberty with student’s name noted on the “For” line) are accepted at both Elem/Jr High and High School offices. 

    Balance Statements
    Balance statements for all low and negative accounts will be emailed directly to parents/guardians once a week. Please ensure your child’s school has your current email address in order to receive these notices, and check your emails regularly.
