Liberty is once again partnering with 911 Driving School to provide a traffic safety education course at LHS. Classes will be held every Tuesday through Friday before school (6:10-8:00am). Classes begin April 14 and end May 15. See the attached letter for more information and contact 911 Driving School directly to register at 509-324-0911 or www.911drivingschool.com.
Halfway Point – January 24
Today, January 24th, marks the midway point of the school year and the end of the first semester. Student report cards will be sent home with students next week; junior high and high school reports will be mailed home. New class rotations for Term 3/Semester 2 classes will begin Monday, January 27th.
Liberty teachers Molly Gentry and Charis Bair are starting a Drama Club! It is open to all high school and junior high students. There will be a meeting for interested students next Wednesday, January 29th, from 3:10-5:30. There are sign-up sheets at both the elementary/junior high and high school offices.
The Science Olympiad Club will meet again this coming week on Wednesday, January 29th. All students, grades 6th through 8th, are welcome to join the club meeting at 2pm in the Elem/JH cafeteria. This is the last chance to get into the Science Olympiad Club as they begin their internal competitions to determine this year’s Science Olympiad Team. If your student has already signed up for Science Olympiad, they should plan to join Dr. Nollmeyer in the elementary/junior high cafeteria on Wednesday at 2pm. If your student has not yet signed up but would like to, they may do so at the office before Wednesday’s club meeting and then join in the fun!
All Fitness Center memberships expired December 31st and, accordingly, the key fobs are no longer active. If you would like to renew your membership and reactivate your fob, you will need to complete a new form and submit it along with the membership fee to the high school office. Membership forms are available here.
Liberty Lancer Cheerleading Fundraiser
Our Lancer Cheerleaders are selling Liberty lanyard keychains to raise money for new uniforms and stunt mats. Please see the attached flyer for more information, or contact cheer coaches Leona Budde at email@example.com or Megan Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Busing and Attendance Message Line Reminder
The Elem/JH office is open at 7am daily (509-245-3211, ext. 2), and the high school office opens at 7:30am (509-245-3229, ext. 1). We are able to dispatch bus changes or cancellations as needed to our drivers; call either office to speak with a secretary, or select Option 8 when you call either school to leave a voicemail about a student absence or bus change. Attendance line messages are checked first thing each morning and throughout the day.
Breakfast and lunch menus are posted on the Food Service webpage here. Family meal account payments can be made in cash or check at either school office. Online payments can be made via credit or debit card through e~Funds for Schools at http://www.libertysd.us/e-funds (a per-transaction convenience fee will be added).
Late Start Mondays
Buses and breakfast run one hour later than normal every Monday. Our school day will begin at 9:05am in the HS and 9:20am* in the EJH building. Staff will use this time each week to work on curriculum, assessment data, and evaluation systems to enhance student achievement.
*If you will need childcare on any of these mornings, supervision can be arranged starting as early as 7:30am for students dropped off at school. Please contact the school office to make arrangements by the week before.
Bus Drivers Needed
Liberty needs substitute bus drivers! If you’ve ever considered learning to drive a bus (or putting your existing CDL to use), now is a great time to act. The need for substitute drivers increases during the busy winter athletics season. All training is provided by the district, and any expenses incurred during the licensing process will be reimbursed on a set schedule once you begin to work at Liberty. This is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, grandparents, or part-time workers with morning and/or afternoon availability. Application materials are available HERE. Contact Rick Brash, transportation supervisor, at 245-3217 if you have any questions.
